Peter Wright – Chairman of the Gamlingay & District Local History Society, recently contacted WDG on behalf of Miss Lyn Wright from Bendigo in Australia. Lyn’s ancestor Mr. Charles Wright (1832-1896) served as a Wheelwright on the existing WDG site in Gamlingay, circa 1850 for approximately ten years. Charles then made the brave decision to start a new life with his wife Eliza and family in Australia circa 1860, where he also established his own Wheelwright business in Shelbourne Lockwood, Victoria.

Lyn Wright visited the WDG facility on July 29th 2015, with a friend and was also accompanied by Peter Wright and his wife of Gamlingay & District Local History Society. Rob Hudson – MD of WDG hosted the visit, explaining the 265 year history of the company from its early and humble beginnings to present day. After a tour of the facility, Lyn was presented with a framed company bibliography by Rob to commemorate the visit.

Rob summarised the visit by saying “It was a pleasure meeting Lyn and learning more about Charles and his life after leaving Gamlingay.
